First off i know i am going to get some negative feedback, but please understand this is not a Nerf Statement or even anything like that. The sniper Rifles in this game i feel are appropriate in almost every way but one.... Which in my opinion is countermeasures.
What do i mean? I mean that i feel that snipers are difficult to avoid in this game not because of the weapon but a little bit because of the openness of the maps making it a little too easy to be plucked off. At this point there are many skillful snipers in Dust that can pull off some incredible shots and they deserve their kill. Many times we get killed by snipers who are behind the red line and we cannot kill them as a infantrymen unless your a sniper too or if you are in range for a forge gun. I've seen many snipers go 10-0 to 25- 6 to even 30-0.
Those of you who have not skills into sniper rifles understand how frustrating it is to be kill by an enemy who you can't see and if they are skillful snipers you cannot progress in some maps. Now there are ways to get around snipers such as LAV's and other Vehicles.
So this post is mostly a feedback post for you guys. Leave a response on ideas to avoid snipers or even possibilities of future add ons to allow more mobility.
Maybe they could add a sort of riot shield (probably not a popular idea which i understand) which absorbs rail based weapons only or something that takes up a primary slot leaving you with only a sidearm to persist with more tactics more movements while the snipers could still shoot at your feet if you're standing. Maybe even a Excessive CPU module that is specially absorbs more snipers rounds. Idk this isn't a rant post this is a feedback and brainstorming post. leave a respond with your ideas or tips to avoid snipers.
(i moved this post to general discussion as well as Feedback and requests. hoping i can get more people to discuss some ideas.) |

And if you get sniped, try and countersnipe or call out the sniper's position to your team mates. If the sniper's in the redline, well then chances are you redlined them and smashed their team. :/ I had another person say something similar maybe you could give some feedback off of this, he did not respond.

With that information, it's not hard to find where the sniper may be hiding, grab a militia sniper with complex damage mods (I personally use the covenant, same damage, just more rounds per mag), and kill or scare the bastard.
i understand this and its makes sense, but what i am saying is in those situation thats a limited option to kill a sniper. those of us who are either not good at sniping or even don't have the skills points to kill a prototype snipers in a prototype heavy frame suit leaves us at a constant disadvantage. sure he invested into the suit and his weapon i am not arguing that. i feel though the issue is more mobility. there are various ways to kill an infantryman and various ways to destroy installations, vehicles and more.
But its come to my attention you're left with either sniping with a militia equipment which is useless against a prototype heavy sniper or hoping one of your teammates have snipers who are running higher level snipers. if we can't kill a sniper then i hope we can at least maneuver around him but the maps are very open. again if you got an idea how to deal with that kind of situation let me know dude, because current maps are really open making us fish in a barrel when a skillful sniper is around. |

But sitting in the Red-line with a sniper rifle, is the only way to enjoy Pubstomping matches. i totally agree, my thinking more along the lines of just mobility. If you can get 30-0 with sniping than you deserve it but because the maps are so open i feel restricted in progressing from one objective to another. know what i mean? |

Although just dropping the ship on their head will do too...
What's most annoying to me is that I still don't know the maps very well, so I am not always certain from where I could be getting shot. I wish there would be an easier way to study this than during live-games.
Also is it just me, or are sniper threads the current FOTM? :) lol, thats a great idea but i do see issue with that tactic when the enemy sniper is redlining himself, you hover over the redline and you're losing a dropship. basically you just lost a bunch of isk for a sniper kill. thats my thinking at least. Edited part: to be more clear when the sniper is hiding behind redlines. |

If you're in a public match, you should hope that someone in your squad or on the team is an effective sniper themself and can take out the opposing sniper.
If you're in PC, you should designate this role to one person or someone capable of it.
Nerfs shouldn't be given out because you're dying to something. There are already counters to different roles on the field - most people just don't want to rely on someone else (teamwork). Kinda sad. first off do read my post i said nothing about nerfs, this isn't a nerf. Second i am not asking for a role in one deal i am asking for countermeasures when you are preparing to counter a issue at hand. but let me know how you would handle this situation.

Kinda sad. also i got to note this is a futuristic game and i am sure there are countermeasure in the future for snipers like we to in todays current warfare. We use mortor strikes against snipers, riot shields, armour vested flak jackets, ect. there are many countermeasures in todays world that my thinking is more along the lines that it should exsist in this world too. |

I've seen people hacking behind LAVs blocking angles from some sniping. Same with HAVs. Thing is the more snipers there are the fewer people on the ground fighting you. It isn't full-proof, but you should be able to know where snipers are coming from, then you should be able to mitigate them. Unless they have like 360 degree covereage, but that takes 3-4 people off the field. This puts you at a big disadvantage. ...Eventually we will have invisibility also... i have actually done that too block hacking with LAV but what happened in response is swarm launchers will shoot it and the it blows up and i die from splash damage. again limited option. respond if you got an idea on how to maneuver around that please. |

Edited part: to be more clear when the sniper is hiding behind redlines. I try not to get close to the enemy redline, but if I have to, I'll try to keep a low profile and stay behind cover. Another good defence I find is to travel in packs. The sniper can't take you all on at once, so the chance that it hits you specifically is pretty low. Ultimately there can't be a 100% effective counter-measure though, otherwise we'd all use it and snipers would never get any kills. :) As frustrating as it is, sometimes we just can't avoid being picked off out of nowhere...
And i understand that but what's frustrating isn't being sniped and not knowing where its coming from its knowing that their is a sniper and not being able to stop him if he is running high end gear. in today's warfare we use mortar strikes, smoke grenades, armor plated flak jackets, etc. One would expect in a future world they would have such countermeasures. I ain't saying it needs to be 100 % effective but with open maps and mobility being key to get objectives a sniper can turn a tide of a match with a single round if he shoots a guy hacking objectives, trying to revive his squad mates, trying to fight a firefight with his team and killing him causing the team to crumble in firefights. |
